Work Based Learning
The Transeo survey basically tried to tell me that it thought I would be good as a teacher. More specifically an art or music teacher. However, it did bring up something similar to graphic design which I initially hadn’t thought of, but I like art and technology so I suppose that’s a good idea. It didn’t have many things to do with technology in my top results though which was kind of disappointing since what I wanted were things that had something to do with technology or cybersecurity, but I did learn that I can combine that with art or possibly do something more with my creative side for a job. During Career Fair, I went up to many different stands because I was unsure on whether or not I should do the medical field or the electronics field or even if there was something else I was interested in (like psychology). Ultimately, I found one that interested me towards the beginning that had aligned with my primary interest - The GRILL. That’s what I ended up shadowing. I learned about how to make a computer, how different computer programs are made, different parts of coding, how to wipe a computer and set a new computer up, what the simulations are like, and more. I learned they make simulations for more than just the military, they work on almost all things technology based and build and name new computers every year, I learned that the job isn’t entirely just staring at code all day and it is kind of considered a government job I think. I took a lot of pages of notes but that’s mostly what I remember off the top of my head. I think my feelings about job shadowing have changed since I realized that when I went to sign up for the Premier Health one, it had a lot of things I needed to do to prepare and very strict rules, but for ones like the GRILL, it seemed less high-maintenance. As for doing a career in the GRILL. I feel like I am more interested now that I have done the job shadow. I thought it was going to be really high maintenance and be just coding but there’s more to it than that and it seems pretty fun and like something I would like to do although I don’t think it uses much creativity and it’s not exactly that medical but it still is helping the people who are saving lives (the military) save more lives so, I’d say I’m still helping people just like I strive to do. So, it will definitely be something I will consider.
